PRAYER AND LITURGY POLICY

The new policy is pending and will be published following ratification from the Governing Body.

Daily Prayers

At school, the children are taught traditional Catholic prayers. These prayers can be used at home to support parents in developing their children’s knowledge of prayer and to continue to develop their children’s understanding of what the words mean to us as Christians today.

We have a new school prayer that was developed following a parent, Governor, staff and child consultation.

School prayer

Together, as one people,

as brothers and sisters,

let us walk towards God

and love one another.

Amen.

St Thomas Aquinas Trust prayer

Come, Holy Spirit, Divine Creator, true source of light and fountain of wisdom!

Pour forth your light upon our schools, and take away any darkness which covers
Us. Grant our young people open minds to understand, the clarity to
Comprehend, and abundant grace in expressing themselves.

Guide the beginning of our work, direct its progress, and bring it to successful
Completion. This we ask through Jesus Christ, true God and true man, living and
reigning with You and the Father, forever and ever.

Amen.

Our Daily Prayers:

Prayer and Liturgy

Pupils at St Thomas More participate in a wide variety of prayer and liturgy throughout each week including whole school, key stage and class acts of worship. We also encourage pupils to take time for prayer and reflection on a more personal level and provide opportunities for larger celebrations with the wider school and church community. Our pupils are reverent and reflective at times of prayer and liturgy. The pupils are knowledgeable about their faith, which they act upon visibly through prayer and worship. Children lead acts of celebration of the Word throughout the year and plan and carry out their own acts of prayer and liturgy.

Our newly renovated prayer garden enables children to pray in an open space and unstructured times of the school day.

Class masses and services

At the end of each RE topic (branch) each class leads a class service to reflect on and share their learning.  All Key stage 2 classes lead a 9am Sunday mass throughout the academic year.
