Our School Lay Chaplain is Lucy Kearns.
Chaplaincy Team
These are a group of students in the upper key stage 2 classes of the school and consist of Y4/5, Y5 & Y6. Each student becomes part of the Chaplaincy Team, but is able to select a preference to serve in one of the 5 individual teams, each with their own ministry and responsibility to the Catholic Life, Mission, prayer & liturgy of the school. Y6 students are invited to write a letter of application to be named as Captain or Vice-captain of their chosen team, and part of a leadership team that meets with the Lay Chaplain regularly. These Teams are and a brief of example of some of their duties are:
- WORSHIP
- Co-ordinating and planning large school liturgies and CoW such as Feast days, end of term services and liturgies in Church.
- WITNESS
- Monitoring of CoW, Lunchtime prayer club, class prayer areas & displays around school.
- SERVICE
- Running of the Lunchtime prayer clubs, helping in the hall and office as monitors and leading of graces in classrooms.
- CHARITY
- To lead on and support all charitable activity in school, especially during harvest, Advent & Lent.
- COMMUNICATION
- To be the outward facing side of the team, helping create displays, posts for the school website/social media, and contribute to the school newsletter.
Students in Y5 in the Pentecost term are invited to apply for chaplaincy. These Students write an application, are interviewed & selected by the Lay Chaplain and members of the SLT/Trust in Pentecost 2 ready for the new academic year when they join Y6. In September the incoming Y5 then have the month of September to write a application to chaplaincy and have a commissioning Mass in the Parish.
Roles and responsibilities of the Chaplaincy Team include:
- Plan and deliver prayer times & activities in the Prayer Garden and other spaces.
- Assist in the planning of Masses, liturgies & other key Celebrations of the Word.
- They take on key ministries during services e.g. welcoming, Photographer, tech Support etc.
- Encourage students outside of chaplaincy to take part in activities at break times and charitable events.
