At St. Thomas More, our children in Key Stage 2 are taught French as a foreign language. Through high-quality language education we aim to foster pupil’s curiosity and deepen their understanding of the world.
Teaching aims to enables pupils to express their ideas and thoughts in French and to understand and respond to French speakers, both in speech and in writing. It also provides opportunities for pupils to communicate for practical purposes and learn new ways of thinking. Our learning is based on the ‘Rachel Hawkes’ language scheme and covers the requirements of the National Curriculum.
Children in Key Stage 1 are introduced to the French language through simple activities such as the register and greetings.
This academic year, as part of our ‘Catch Up’ Curriculum, all children in Year 3-5 will be revisiting ‘Rouge’ Learning.
